Learn to be a good listener and balance the conversation
Listening is pretty simple, but we all get it wrong sometimes.
Listening is the most important skill when being there for someone. Don’t preach, pry, or pretend to have all the answers, just try to understand where they’re coming from and be as supportive as you can.
You’ve started the conversation, now you need to hear them out. But listening is a skill and it is not always easy. You can start by asking open-ended questions just to get them talking. And be patient. Also, make room for silence, that’s valid too. Sometimes offering advice or even sharing about your own personal experiences can be helpful, just make sure to keep the conversation about them. And if you don’t know what to say, it’s ok to just listen.
